The planning application seeks permission for the new hospital to be built on the site currently occupied by the Gwyneth Huelin Wing and Peter Crill House as well as nearby land in Kensington Place.

The new hospital is expected to be built in one single construction phase, with the current hospital remaining fully operational during the relocation, demolition and construction process.
The application was described by Infrastructure Minister Deputy Eddie Noel as “the first of many milestones” in the £466 million project.
If approved, the new hospital will be eight storeys high, with plans for a public outdoor terrace as well as link bridges connecting it to the adjacent Patriotic Street carpark.

In November an outline business case will be submitted to the States along with the proposed way of paying for it – previous funding proposals were controversially withdrawn on the eve of the debate.
Deputy Noel said he was pleased to have reached this stage: “The new hospital will be a landmark building. It is being carefully designed to respect its surroundings while still creating a positive impact. One area of primary focus is the public using the hospital and the design incorporates pedestrian networks and enhanced public spaces, as well as amenities inside the building.”
