A local politician who was diagnosed with prostate cancer has joined a new interactive campaign that invites islanders to share one positive change they will make to cut their cancer risk.
The ‘United by Unique’ digital pledge wall has been created to mark World Cancer Day on Wednesday 4 February.
Islanders are invited to submit a digital pledge, either as a short video or written message, sharing a simple action to reduce their risk of cancer or support those affected.
One of those who has already shared his pledge is Education Minister Rob Ward, who was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2022.
He created a video encouraging islanders to prioritise screening.
“As we approach World Cancer Day, I would encourage everybody to take full advantage of any screening processes that are available and to be very aware of your own health,” said Deputy Ward.
“The earlier cancer is caught, the more options you have for treament, so let’s do that today, together. Please take your chance to be screened and encourage wider screening processes on our island.”
Other submissions have featured Health Minister Tom Binet, who committed to “pushing ahead with preventative health measures” as well as cancer nurse and charity representatives.
The pledges will be showcased at Jersey Library from 11am to 3pm on Wednesday 4 February.
Charities, healthcare professionals and government services will also host stalls and offer information about cancer prevention, screening and support services available in Jersey.
The day will conclude with a live panel discussion from 2pm to 3pm, giving attendees the opportunity to submit questions and take part in a conversation about cancer prevention and early detection.

Islanders are encouraged to contribute their pledge online or by scanning the QR code on one of the digital screens displayed around St Helier – including at Charing Cross and in several town car parks – in the weeks leading up to World Cancer Day.
