The External Relations Minister has said he is fully behind the Chief Minister’s message to the UK government condemning Israel’s “inhumane killing” of Gaza civilians.
Earlier this week, Deputy Lyndon Farnham sent a letter to Foreign Secretary David Lammy to convey “deep concern” over the “intensifying humanitarian crisis” in the conflict-torn region.
It followed a statement signed by the UK and 27 other countries, many of which had previously been allied with Israel.
Speaking to Express, Deputy Gorst said that Jersey’s position was “quite clear” in the three points raised in the letter.
He said: “Our points are really threefold. It is not acceptable that aid is not getting through, and it’s even more ridiculous that people who are coming for aid are finding that their own life is at risk. And we say to the UK and support the UK in ensuring that aid flows freely, because people right now are starving in Gaza, and that’s not acceptable on anyone’s agenda.
“Secondly, that there should be a ceasefire and that that should lead to permanent peace. Of course, we know that that’s really difficult and challenging.
“And thirdly, that the hostages should be released.”
He said he and the Chief Minister were “fully aligned” on these three points.
