A local charity has created more opportunities for islanders to join conversations about the issues that impact the daily lives of disabled people.
Enable Jersey recently started hosting ‘Voice’ sessions in which people can discuss the barriers they face and help shape island-wide conversations on issues such as benefits, access to public buildings, healthcare, and wider policy change.
Following the success of the daytime sessions, the charity is now introducing an evening option to ensure those who are unable to attend during the day are not excluded.
The topics discussed at each session are guided by the participants, with topics in 2025 including:
- The new Assisted Dying Law
- Government complaints policy reform
- Travel accessibility with LibertyBus
- Election inclusion with the States Greffe
- The development of Easy Read guidance for the Jersey States Assembly.
“Voice is about listening to what people are telling us – the barriers they face day to day – and working together to find ways to overcome them,” explained Support Services Manager Suzanne Day.

“It’s also about connection: meeting others, having a chat over a cuppa, and knowing you’re not alone. After the success of our daytime sessions, we’re really pleased to be launching an evening group so more people can take part.”
