A programme to help nervous flyers take to the skies with confidence will take off from Jersey Airport next year.
easyJet is launching its first ‘Fearless Flyer’ course in Jersey on Saturday 17 January 2026.
The programme has helped over 14,000 people overcome their fear of flying since it launched in 2012, with a success rate of more than 95%.
The Fearless Flyer course is divided into three main parts:
- Virtual ground course: An easyJet captain will explain the unfamiliar sounds and sensations customers feel onboard an aircraft during take-off, landing and during times of turbulence, and an expert in the psychology of fear will teach mind techniques to help manage nerves.
- Pre-flight one-hour ‘Meet the Team’ online session: Participants will be walked through the airport experience and what to expect, including a Q&A session with an easyJet pilot.
- One-hour experience flight: Customers will put their new skills to the test with a flight from Jersey Airport, whilst listening to a live commentary of the flight from the Fearless Flyer team.
Fearless Flyer course director Mark Wein said: “As someone who used to have a fear of flying, I understand only too well how restrictive this fear can be, but it really isn’t difficult to overcome.
“We’re really pleased to be able to bring our course to Jersey for the first time to help nervous flyers on the island take to the skies with confidence.”
I’ve struggled with intense anxiety around flying for years – not just being on a plane but even seeing one or going near an airport would make me panic
Steven Treadaway, Fearless Flyer course participant
Steven Treadaway, who had only ever been on one flight 27 years ago until he attended easyJet’s Fearless Flyer course at Luton Airport, described it as a “truly life-changing experience”.
He said: “I’ve struggled with intense anxiety around flying for years – not just being on a plane but even seeing one or going near an airport would make me panic.
“The easyJet Fearless Flyer course completely changed that. The team were so understanding and professional; they explained every detail of how flying works in a way that made sense and really eased my fears.
“The pilot’s talk was fascinating, and the support from the coaches throughout was incredible. The highlight was the actual flight – something I never thought I’d do calmly, yet I felt safe and even enjoyed it!
“If you have any fear of flying, no matter how bad, this course is absolutely worth it.”
Jersey Airport’s head of terminal operations Sarah-Louise Stubbs said: “We’re delighted to welcome easyJet’s Fearless Flyer course to Jersey for the very first time.
“This milestone reflects our shared commitment to supporting passengers through our wider Assisted Travel provision, helping more people feel confident and comfortable when they fly.
“It’s a fantastic initiative that enhances the customer experience, and we look forward to seeing it take off in Jersey.”
