Jersey’s new Solicitor General has said she is “deeply honoured” to take on the role after her appointment was confirmed by the King.
Announced in the States Assembly this morning, Advocate Victoria Bell’s appointment comes after the previous incumbent – Mr Matthew Jowitt KC – became Attorney General.
Advocate Bell grew up in Jersey and was educated at Jersey College for Girls, before attending the University of Exeter where she read English. She later converted to Law.
In 2009, she was admitted as a solicitor of the Senior Courts of England and Wales and that same year began working in Jersey’s Law Officers’ Department.
In 2016, she became an advocate of the Royal Court of Jersey, and in 2024 she became a Senior Legal Adviser in the Law Officers’ Department.
Speaking after her appointment as Solicitor General was confirmed by the King, on the recommendation of the Lord Chancellor and Secretary of State for Justice, Advocate Bell described herself as “deeply honoured”.
“I look forward very much to maintaining the excellent standards set by my predecessor Matthew Jowitt KC and working with him and all of my highly talented and accomplished colleagues at the Law Officers’ Department,” she added.
