Two children from each of the Island’s primary schools will be dressed in bonnets will be accompanying all the teams into Howard Davis Park on Saturday evening.

Each school has been twinned with one of the Islands taking part and the young mascots will be accompanying their visiting team for the Ceremony.

The Games’ Manager of Ceremonies Suzie Foster said: “This is a great project as it continues the wonderful work that the Schools Twinning Project has been doing and gives the children a chance to meet the teams from the islands they have been learning about.

Local performers – including Jèrriais-singing pop-folk band – the Badlabecques – and Jersey-born singer and song-writer Michelle Rowsell – will be entertaining the crowds at the evening designed to showcase Jersey’s history and traditions, language and people.

ITV Channel’s Jess Dunsdon and Mark McQuillan and St Brelade Deputy Murray Norton will host the ceremony that will also see performances by the Band of the Island of Jersey, The Jersey Youth Orchestra and Jersey Youth Choir – the new choir put together especially for the Games – and the Fleur De Lys Signing Choir from St Mary’s School.

Suzie said: “We wanted the Opening Ceremony to touch on our history, traditions and what makes Jersey special as well as showcasing the immense talent that we have on the island.”
