A former politician has completed a fundraising walk in aid of local food bank charities after being inspired by the Liberation Day stories of those who were given Red Cross food parcels during the Occupation.
Tom du Feu completed his walk from St Brelade’s Parish Hall to the memorial of the SS Vega on the Albert Pier earlier this month.
The 82-year-old is raising money for local food banks that support islanders in need, with the funds raised being split between The Grace Trust, Salvation Army, and St Vincent de Paul Foodbanks.

The former St Peter politician is living with stage four cancer, but shows no sign of slowing down.
In 2023, he completed 80 laps around St Peter’s Football pitch to mark his 80th birthday – raising over £8,000 for Jersey Hospice in the process.
Mr du Feu served the parish of St Peter for over 20 years as Deputy and Constable, and was made Life President of St Peter FC in 2019 after completing 34 years of service to the club.

Following the recent Liberation Day celebrations, Tom was inspired by memories of the arrival of the SS Vega in Jersey with Red Cross Food Parcels.
He said he wanted to help islanders who are struggling and in need of support from food banks – just as the Red Cross helped those during the Occupation.
Tom invited islanders who lived through the Occupation to join him on a leg of his walk, no matter how big or small, to help raise awareness of food poverty on the island.
