Three operating theatres at Jersey General Hospital have been temporarily closed after a “mechanical failure” linked to high temperatures.
A statement from Medical Director Simon West confirmed that emergency, urgent and maternity care continued to operate as normal, with no risk to patient safety.
The disruption affects three of the hospital’s seven operating theatres, which have been shut while “essential maintenance work” is carried out by “specialist external contractors”.
Health and Care Jersey said contingency plans had been put in place to ensure critical services could continue safely using the remaining theatres.

Some planned operations and procedures have been postponed and will be rescheduled, with affected patients being contacted directly.
“Each patient is being clinically reviewed and prioritised, ensuring those with the greatest need continue to receive care as quickly as possible,” the statement said.
“While there may be a short-term impact on waiting times, rebooking is already underway and every effort is being made to minimise delays.”
Specialist external contractors are carrying out repairs, with work ongoing to restore the theatres “as soon as possible”.
While this is not a major incident, it does highlight the challenges that can arise in an ageing hospital facility

Mr West said: “While this is not a major incident, it does highlight the challenges that can arise in an ageing hospital facility, particularly during periods of unusually warm weather.
“We are doing everything possible to restore full services safely and as quickly as possible.”
He also outlined measures being taken to support staff and patients during the heatwave conditions, including the use of portable air conditioning units where possible, wellbeing checks, cold drinks, rest areas and the distribution of ice pops across services.
“We are grateful to Islanders for their patience and understanding and thank all our staff for their continued dedication and commitment during these difficult heatwave conditions,” added Mr West.
