Work will start on the project immediately after the annual Dragon Boat race on Saturday 20 September and will run right through the winter with a completion date of April 2015, before the Barclays Jersey Boat Show in May.
The project is being managed by specialist consultants Marine Projects Ltd and undertaken by local firm Geomarine, who have previously worked on St Aubin’s Harbour and the new linkspan bridge at Elizabeth Harbour.
This project will allow the RNLI to berth their inshore and offshore lifeboats together, and will allow the lifeboat crews access direct frim the pier.
Ports of Jersey, the States department that operates the harbours and Airport, say that the work could create extra berthing facilities in the future.
Ports of Jersey Group Operations Director Stephen Driscoll said: “In recent months we have engaged widely with our many key stakeholders in and around the Albert Pier vicinity and they share our enthusiasm and commitment to improving a much valued area of the harbour.”
