They might seem like the perfect way to cool down on a hot day, but water balloons are causing an unexpected problem at Jersey’s popular Splashpad…
Active Jersey is urging families to leave water balloons at home – or make sure every last piece is picked up – after warning that burst balloons can pose a choking hazard for young children and damage the Coronation Park attraction’s filtration system.
TOP TIPS
- Take all rubbish home or use the bins provided.
- Avoid using water balloons/water bombs into the Splashpad area.
- Ensure your child is wearing the correct swimwear.
- Keep the water and surrounding area clean of any debris.
- Avoid bringing any animals or food into the water area.
The sports and leisure team which looks after the park said they were “so glad” to see people enjoying the water pad in the warmer weather, but asked visitors for their help in keeping the area safe and fun for all young children.
Updating the public on the water balloon issues, Active said: “We know this isn’t intentional, and we really appreciate your support in helping reduce the risk.
“Thank you for helping us keep the Splashpad a safe, clean and happy place for everyone!”
The Splashpad is open daily over the summer from 10am to 6pm and all children must be supervised by an adult.
