Two unused buildings around the Airport could be demolished to create a new walking route.

Once home to the airport social club and operational offices, the structures – which Ports of Jersey said are showing signs of “serious” structural damage – would be removed to help link existing footpaths and connect Avenue de la Commune to Mont à la Brune.

But the States-owned entity explained that the improvement will also open up space for upcoming infrastructure upgrades.

Airport operations director Ashley Maggs said that the buildings, which are located near the fuel farm, “have outlived their use”.

Mr Maggs continued: “Removing them is an important step in preparing the airport for the future.

“I’m really pleased we can also use this opportunity to improve public access by linking up the footpaths. It’s a small change that makes a big difference for people walking in the area.”

Ports has said that a new fence will also be installed to separate public and operational areas, ensuring safety and compliance with airport regulations.
