The plans propose that the current auditorium area be infilled and a glazed extension be added to the existing dining area.

A letter sent from Andrew Harvey of Andrew Harvey Architects on behalf of the school explains: “The purpose of the application is to provide a levelled area that is more practical than the current stepped area for the number of pupils currently using the space. This then links into the new dining room area allowing for over flow space.”

“The extension to the dining room is important for the school as the numbers have increased in recent years as the current facilities are inadequate for the current number of pupils,” Mr Harvey adds.

The proposed single storey extension will add 100m² of additional internal dining room space.

The planning application explains that the “extension has been designed to match the design of the school with a shallow zinc roof and a glazing pattern that matches the existing fenestration”, and tries to “blend in” rather than “stand out” from the existing building.

The application adds that the site area is located in the centre of the school, can only be seen from within the site, and therefore has no impact on surrounding properties.

My Harvey concludes: “There will be no increase in pupils as a result but the extension is trying to resolve an issue with an increase in pupils that has already occurred!”
