A first attempt to demolish the building, which used to be the social hall of the Good Companions Club was rejected by Planning in June.
The reason for the refusal was that the proposed houses were considered an over-development of the site and the application did not include enough information about vehicle access.
However, the principal of the hall’s demolition and its replacement with a residential development was considered acceptable by planning officers.
The development includes the next-door listed Crown House, which makes the corner of Journeaux Street and Great Union Road, although the exterior will not alter.
This revised application focuses on the removal of the gymnasium use and demolition of the existing modern open plan structure to the rear of the listed building.

It is proposed to retain the existing entrance to the residential dwelling and reuse the existing side entrance door as the new entrance to the remodelled ground floor area retained within Crown House.
The site will be split into three distinct elements: a development site for two residential properties, the reuse of the ground floor of Crown House for commercial office space and the upper first and second floor levels of Crown House retained as the existing residential unit.
The existing terrace amenity space at first floor that presently serves the existing residential unit will not change.
