Members of the public spotted the unlucky gannet, which had netting around its beak, neck and foot, in the St. Ouen’s Bay area on Friday.
Amid concerns that it wouldn’t be able to fish for food, the group – Cris Sellares de Pedro, Sarah May Watts and Gail Bennie – called the JSPCA for help.
After it was collected by an ambulance and taken to the Shelter, the JSPCA reported: “…The gannet was checked over by one of our veterinary surgeons and the netting was removed safely.
“No other abnormalities were detected so the gannet was released safely and flew off beautifully.”
They added: “We are here to help and support, so please do not hesitate to contact us if you find wildlife in need.
“And please please please clear away your rubbish that may cause harm to our precious wildlife.”
