A play based on the memoir of Gerald Durrell was performed over 1,500 miles away on a Greek island this month as part of the Corfu Literary Festival.
My Family and Other Animals was first performed in Jersey, Guernsey, Sark and Corfu in 2007.

The play was revived at the Jersey Arts Centre this summer to mark the 100th anniversary of Gerald Durrell’s birth, and then travelled to Corfu as part of the Corfu Literary Festival this month.
The show is based on Gerald Durrell’s autobiographical novel, which tells the story of when his widowed mother whisked her four children and the family dog Roger to Corfu.
The natural landscape and wildlife of the Greek island inspired a lifelong fascination with the animal kingdom in the youngest Durrell.
Gerald Durrell went on to establish Durrell Wildlife Park – now know as Jersey Zoo – in 1959.
My Family and Other Animals was first adapted for stage by Jersey Arts Centre director Daniel Austin.
The book has remained in print since it was first published in 1956.
