Police are investigating after a Second World War military truck at a bunker in St Catherine’s was badly damaged in the early hours of the morning.

In a post on social media, Jersey Bunker Tours described how four “young adults” climbed over fencing at the site of the new museum at 04:40 on Monday and spent nearly an hour vandalising the 80-year-old GMC truck.

The company said that CCTV footage captured the entire incident – including two individuals jumping on the truck’s bonnet “until it was concaved,” breaking the roof, entering the cab and attempting to start the engine.

The post, which gained over 1,000 likes and hundreds of comments, continued: “The damage will be expensive to repair, but there is some relief tonight, knowing the four of you’ll soon be caught.”

Following queries from Express, the States of Jersey Police confirmed that investigations into the alleged incident are underway.

Jersey War Tours – the non-profit organisation behind the museum – said the St Catherine’s Bunker site will still open this Friday.

In an update posted last night, the team thanked the public for their support.

The post said: “Police are doing their thing, and we have a meeting with them tomorrow.

“We can then work with the insurance company on the next steps.

“Priority will be on the electrical damage and getting it running again for Liberation 80.

“It’s a tough old truck, and we will work with a local classic car specialist on the broken panels and bonnet damage.”
