A number of properties in St Ouen have been without electricity for hours after an overhead power line was damaged during Storm Goretti.

Parish representatives confirmed that St Ouen’s Parish Hall can be opened if anyone needs shelter, warmth, running water or a place of refuge tonight.

Storm Goretti could bring gusts up to 90mph tonight in what is expected to be the most severe weather event in the island since Storm Ciarán.

Deputy Lucy Stephenson shared an update on behalf of St Ouen’s Constable as power outages continue in the western parish.

She said: “St Ouen’s Parish Hall can be opened in the event that anyone needs shelter, warmth, running water or a place of refuge tonight due to Storm Goretti.

“Please contact Bernie, the duty Centenier, on 07797724901, who will arrange to have it opened.”

The St Ouen Deputy added: “A number of properties are currently without electricity after an overhead power line was damaged.

“Jersey Electricity have now turned off the power to the line for safety reasons and are working on it currently.

“They hope to restore it this evening, however if those affected need anything in the meantime please contact the duty centenier as above.”

Jersey Electricity urged islanders to stay clear of any damaged power infrastructure, and report any electrical hazards by calling the emergency line on 01534 505050.
