Having gone back to her canvas after an enforced break, she will now be exhibiting 40 oils on canvas at Jersey Museum’s Link Gallery.

The new exhibit, ‘Paysages – My landscapes’, will be open from 10:00 to 16:00 every day free of charge from 3 to 28 November.

Ahead of its opening, she spoke to Express about her background and the freedom to create…

When did you start painting?

When I was 4 years old. My father was an architect and there was an artist working in his office. I became his shadow and would go into his studio as often as possible so I could paint with him.

He taught me a lot and instilled in me a passion for art that never left me. I continued learning by working with older established artists from the age of 12.

What do you enjoy the most about painting?

All kinds of things; the freedom to create, the ‘translation’ of the subject into a new visual language, the proximity to nature, the concentration, the discipline of drawing, the sensuous joy of mixing colours, applying paint to a canvas, finding solutions, the atmosphere of a working studio…

Where do you find your inspiration?

Everywhere but even more intensely in nature. I can’t stop seeing things I want to paint. I don’t need to look for inspiration, I am totally overwhelmed by it and could paint for 300 years non stop!

What is your favourite subject to paint and why?

I don’t have a favourite subject; I have many subjects I love painting or drawing. The sea, the rocks, the sky and the clouds; birds, wild animals, insects, my own animals, nature studies, trees, portraits, memories… It is very interesting being able to change subject matter as it gives me new perspectives, it enriches my vocabulary and keeps me passionate about my work.
