After transitioning from fashion styling to photography, Kasia Guzik’s true passion for capturing moments with a lens emerged when she welcomed her beloved cavapoo Poppy into her home last year.

Ahead of her first canine-inspired photography exhibition this summer, titled ‘Strike the Paws’ – where her pet pooch and other local dogs take centre stage – the photographer told Express how she got into the profession and why she thinks dogs make the perfect picture moments…

Can you describe your journey into photography?

My journey into photography began in December 2020 with the launch of ‘The Mania’.

Initially, I contributed fashion features to local magazines, which ignited my passion for visual storytelling.

Collaborating with talented photographers on fashion shoots allowed me to explore the dynamic energy of events like London Fashion Week.

Over time, I transitioned from styling to capturing images myself – embracing photography as a powerful medium to express creativity and connect with others.

What different skills do you bring to your new career?

My background in fashion styling and editorial work has honed my eye for detail, composition, and aesthetics.

These skills seamlessly translate into photography, enabling me to craft visually compelling narratives.

Additionally, my experience in project management and collaboration ensures that each photoshoot is executed with professionalism and creativity, resulting in images that resonate with authenticity and emotion.

What is it about dog photography that you are so passionate about?

The inspiration came from Poppy, my cavapoo, who joined my life in December last year.

Her presence opened my eyes to the profound bond between humans and their canine companions.

Capturing dogs in their natural moments such as running, playing, or simply being themselves, especially in black and white, allows me to highlight their unique personalities and the joy they bring to our lives.

How do you hope people will react to your new exhibition?

I hope visitors to the ‘Strike the Paws’ exhibition feel a deep connection to the images, experiencing the love and joy that dogs bring into our lives.

By showcasing these candid moments, I aim to evoke emotions that resonate with both dog owners and art enthusiasts, celebrating the unique charm of our four-legged friends.

Do you have any other exciting events planned?

If this exhibition is successful, I’d love to run another one soon; perhaps something else animal-related, or even a broader showcase of the work I’ve done so far across different projects I’ve been involved in.

I haven’t planned anything just yet; I like to let ideas come to me spontaneously. For now, I’m focusing fully on this event and seeing where the journey takes me next.

‘Strike the Paws’ will be open on Thursday 19 June at the Harbour Gallery from 18:00 – 20:00.

Entry is free and a visitors will be able to vote for their favourite pup.
