An electronic music producer known for his energetic and melodic remixes has secured funding for a new dance music project.
James Roche is one of seven artists to receive a grant from ArtHouse Jersey as part of a quarterly funding initiative to support the development of creative works.
His new dance music project ‘NOWHERE CALM’ is a four-track EP which is intended to celebrate the “euphoric escape” of the genre.
Express sat down with James to chat about the inspiration behind his work…
What inspired ‘NOWHERE CALM’?

I have been producing a lot of fast tempo and powerful bass music outside the usual sounds associated with the James Roche alias.
The project explores a darker and heavier side of my musical output, appealing to new audiences that resonate with the sound of modern 140 and UK Garage.
The grant gives me the opportunity to push this boundary and realise its full creative potential.
What stage is your EP at now?
The four tracks have full draft concepts completed.
The next stage will be working with other creative artists on both the audio and visual aspects of the project.
What impact do you hope your music will have on audiences?
I hope this project will resonate with listeners and bring new ears to the upcoming sound of modern 140 music, whilst also showcasing local scenery of Jersey within the visuals of the project.
