More than 7,000 people in Jersey and Guernsey entered the competition to win a year’s free ferry travel – the most the Islands’ local papers have ever received.

The JEP’s Marketing Manager Lorenzo Nardone said: “This is a truly enormous response to the competition and is certainly the most entries that we’ve ever received for a JEP and Guernsey Press competition.

“The size of the response clearly demonstrates that the competition has captured the imagination of people throughout the islands.”

The state-of-the-art 102m trimaran ferry is being customised in the UK and will be setting sail serving the UK to Channel Islands routes from the end of March.

Condor’s Commercial Executive Director Alicia Andrews said: “The judges certainly have an exciting challenge ahead of them, with thousands of entries received for the competition.  We’re delighted that so many islanders wanted to take part and share their suggestions with us, but it won’t be easy to find a winner as so many interesting names have been suggested. The winning name will be announced later this month, and like so many people in the islands, I can’t wait to find out what the new ferry will be called!”
