Following the sale of the J5 number plate for £350,000 at auction this week, Express took a look at some of the most expensive number plates ever sold in Jersey.
Here are the top five…
5. J74
The fifth most expensive number plate sold for £101,000 at the Glencoe weekly auction in 2021 whilst attached to a 2007 Peugeot 107.
4. J72
J72 sold for £139,000 in 2022. At the time, it was the most that had ever been paid for a two-digit plate in Jersey.
During the auction, the plate was said to be attached to “a vehicle of insignificant value” (apologies to any owners of 1999 Honda Civics).
3. J69
Naughty numberplate J69 sold for a record-breaking £230,000 at auction in June.
The £230,000 price tag makes it the most expensive two-digit plate ever sold in Jersey, and the third most expensive overall.
2. J5
Despite speculation that J5 could fetch as much as £500,000 at auction this week, the plate only received £350,000 – which make it the second most expensive number plate sold in the island.
1. J4
The overall auction record still remains with the Lieutenant-Governor’s J4, which went under the hammer for a whopping £380,000 in 2020.
