The Minister for Infrastructure, Deputy Eddie Noel is working with the Parish to make walking and cycling routes around St Clement’s and St Christopher’s primary schools and Le Rocquier safer.

This week, work began on a shared walking and cycle route from the Parish Hall, through Le Rocquier playing fields after a period of public consultation.  

Traffic calming measures will be installed on Pontorson Lane, Rue de la Croix and Rue de Maupertuis later on in the summer to provide a route from Le Squez.

Out of the 400 students at Le Rocquier who come from the Le Squez area, only 140 regularly walk or cycle. By improving the walkways and cycle paths, the Department for Infrastructure (DfI) hopes to increase active student activity as well as reducing congestion.

The traffic calming measures will include the installation of raised tables on Samarés Lane at the junction with Rue de Maupertuis and Rue de la Croix and on Pontorson Lane at the junction of Rue de la Croix and Rue de la Chapelle as well as in between the junction and the new school route.

There will also be a 12-month trial of closing Rue de Maupertuis to through traffic at the double bends.

Deputy Noel said: “We have worked with the Parish of St Clement to make these important improvements happen that will particularly benefit the young people of the Parish.”
