The Police say fraudsters have been trying to book in, in advance at one of the Island’s hotels – paying more for their stay than they needed to and then bouncing their cheque once they’ve claimed their extra money back.

Chief Inspector Lee Turner says it’s a common scam on online sales sites and that although it may appear at first the funds have gone into the recipient’s account, the cheque is later rejected, by which time the excess has already been sent and a fraud has been committed.

They’re warning other local hotels and businesses to keep a lookout for dodgy looking bookings and sales.
