You can choose schools in order of preference but your first choice might not be available if you apply after the deadline on Friday.

If a school is oversubscribed, Education will give priority to children who:

  • Have what’s termed a ‘Special Educational Need’ and must go to a specific school;
  • Have siblings in the school (in classes from Reception to Year five);
  • Are living in the primary school catchment area;those who are living in the secondary school catchment area;
  • Have siblings in the school (in Year six);
  • Have other requests supported by a good educational reason for attending a non-catchment school.

If your first choice of school is already full, Education will try to make sure you get your second choice.

Primary schools will write to you next month to offer you a place but if you no longer need one you are asked to let the school know. Your little one won’t be offered a place in a States primary school if you’ve already accepted a place for them in a fee-paying school.

You can find out more about how to register here.
