Of those, 63 vehicles were being driven at more than double the limit.
The figures emerged following analysis of data from the ‘smiley face’ monitoring devices.
We have recently analysed the data from our ‘smiley face’ speed devices for last month. Our biggest issue was in St Peters Village and nearly 17k vehicles going in excess of the 20mph limit. This is a problem and we will be targeting this area, you have been warned! pic.twitter.com/E39R6WYbvg

Reacting to the stats, St. Peter’s Honorary Police tweeted: “This is a problem and we will be targeting this area, you have been warned!”
Amid this increased monitoring, they say that anyone they catch will face a Parish Hall Enquiry and fined.
In cases of repeat offenders or individuals “excessively speeding”, the force warned “you will most likely end up in the Magistrate’s Court”.

In a swipe at the speeders, they added: “The stretch of road through the village is not that long and give the size of the island we live on speeding through the village is not going to make a difference to your journey time. #ItsNotWorthIt”
