A speeding warning has been after dozens of motorists were stopped on a country road amid “frustrations” over long-running roadworks.

The St Helier Honorary Police said that it had received numerous reports of speeding.

A representative for the honorary police said: “This afternoon, we conducted speed checks on La Grande Route du Mont à l’Abbé following reports of motorists exceeding the 15mph speed limit.

“We understand the current roadworks may be frustrating for drivers, however the speed limit remains 15mph and is in place for the safety of all road users and road workers.

“Over 40 motorists were given suitable words of advice regarding their speed, with five motorists being reported to the parish to the Parish Hall for speeding offences.”

Silvio Alves, the parish’s head of infrastructure told Express it is “surprising” people are speeding on the road as it has speed bumps.

Following concerns raised by a resident, Mr Alves said the parish had asked the honorary police to “do some enforcement to remind people of the speed limit”.

He added that they are looking to install “smiley” speed detector devices within the next couple of weeks to give them data on when people are speeding.
