Bukhosi Aggrey Ndlovu (38), who has been working for Jersey’s Government as a social work Practice Manager since September 2020, was stopped at the top of Beaumont Hill in St. Peter on 19 September.

When tested, he was found to have 43micrograms of alcohol in his blood per 100ml.

As well as drink-driving, Police also charged him with using an unregistered vehicle.

Unrepresented by a lawyer, he pleaded guilty to both offences in the Magistrate’s Court 12 October. Legal Adviser Simon Crowder appeared for the prosecution.

Assistant Magistrate Peter Harris handed him a fine of £1,000, with three weeks’ imprisonment as an alternative, for the drink-driving. He was also banned from driving for 12 months, and ordered to keep off the roads until he passes a test after this date.

For the second charge, he was sentenced to a fine of £250 or a one-week stay in HMP La Moye.

The Government declined to confirm whether Ndlovu would still able to continue his duties as a social worker when asked by Express.

However, a spokesperson said: “We are aware that an employee has appeared in front of the Magistrate’s Court and pleaded guilty to motoring offences.

“We review all cases involving our employees attending Court to establish if the offence impacts on their employment. If the offence impacts on their employment a full investigation takes place and appropriate action is taken.

“Please note, we do not comment on individual employment matters.”
