Before yesterday’s sitting the Transport Minister, his assistant minister and a few others got on their bikes and cycled off from the Steam Clock to clock up some points for their team.
It’s the second year that the States have run Cycle Challenge Jersey as part of the Island’s Sustainable Transport Policy and so far 45 organisations have signed up to get pedalling this month.
Each firm competes to get the most staff riding their bikes for at least ten minutes and there are different categories depending on the size of the team.
If you don’t own a bike, there is a free half hour “try-a-bike” session running at lunchtime today at 12.00 pm, 12.45 pm and 1.30 pm at La Fregate Café and again next Wednesday and the following one. There’s even a free ice cream to reward you for your efforts. Contact m.leverdier@gov.je to reserve your place.
You can also opt to “try-a-bike” at work or call on Dr Bike to pop along and check your bike is roadworthy.
From 8.45 pm onwards on Friday night you can become “Night Rider” and cycle under the stars from St Aubin’s to the Burger Bar and back.
