silver honda wheel

A car stolen from a family home on New Year’s Day in a suspected joyriding incident has been recovered at Vallée des Vaux and taken away for forensic examination.

The silver Honda Jazz was one of two vehicles reported missing from outside a property on St Saviour’s Hill on 1 January 2026, according to the States of Jersey Police.

The car has since been recovered and is now being examined by officers.

A second vehicle taken in the same incident – a blue Audi, registration J143120 – remains missing, and investigators are appealing for information about its whereabouts.

Officers believe the incident was opportunistic and carried out by a small group of young people taking cars for joyriding, rather than for permanent theft.

The appeal comes shortly after police warned of a 25% rise in ‘taking and driving away’ offences, urging Islanders not to leave vehicles unlocked or keys inside.

Police have also highlighted an increase in similar crimes in St Saviour and Five Oaks, including the theft of pedal cycles.

A police spokesperson warned that failing to secure a vehicle could invalidate insurance if it is taken or damaged, adding: “Although we live on a very safe island, there are individuals who choose to commit crimes – let’s not make it easy for them.”
