England are on the brink of crashing out of the World Cup in Brazil after a late winner from Luis Suarez handed Uruguay a 2-1 win, and Roy Hodgson’s men their second defeat in five days. Although there is a slim chance that England could still qualify, their fate is out of their hands.
Their only hope of survival is if Italy win both their remaining games – starting against Costa Rica at 5 pm today – and if England hammer Costa Rica in Belo Horizonte on Tuesday.
Hodgson has insisted that he will not resign over England’s performances in Brazil. The 66-year-old looks set to preside over England’s first group stage exit from the competition since 1958.
