Clinical radiologist Dr Andrew Charles Nisbet was sentenced in August 2020 after admitting to the manslaughter of Pamela Nisbet, a former Honorary Police officer, on the grounds of diminished responsibility.
Having considered the findings of a psychological assessment which concluded he had severe Autism Spectrum Disorder and Asperger Syndrome, the Royal Court agreed that Dr Nisbet should remain in a secure psychiatric hospital in the UK until he is deemed well enough to leave.
The Medical Practitioners Tribunal Service, which makes independent decisions about whether doctors are fit to practise medicine, will today consider his status as a medical professional.
The hearing will be held at St. James’s Buildings in Manchester today, and may last until Wednesday.
