Jersey’s fifth annual Festival of Words this morning announced that Sir Michael will be one of 2019’s big appearances in a show that will celebrate his life and career.

‘An evening with Sir Michael Parkinson’ will see the legendary broadcaster and journalist on the other side of the interview, as his son, Mike, asks him questions about his extensive career in the media.

The Festival say that the evening will show highlights from the Parkinson archive and “unique opportunity to get an intimate, entertaining and informative look at Michael’s remarkable journey from a pit village in Yorkshire to the top of those famous stairs, whilst reliving the best moments from a show that for many defined their Saturday night.” 

Known best for his role as interviewer on the show ‘Parkinson’ which aired between 1971 and 1982 and then again from 1998 to 2007, the veteran broadcaster is also a prolific journalist and writer – having recently published a memoir of footballing legend George Best.

The Festival will run from 25 – 29 September this year across various venues in the island and will feature talks, interviews, performances as well as running an outreach programme in local schools.

The evening with Sir Michael will take place at the Jersey Opera House on Friday 27 September and is sponsored by Carey Olsen.
