But, who will it be? Eleven candidates have put themselves forward to replace Dr Zoe Cameron.
Pundits and political observers are predicting a tight race: Chris Benest from local bookies CB Sports Ltd says Sarah Ferguson is marginally out in front, but there’s hardly anything in it, with Christian May and Sam Mezec both still well in the running. But the race is equally tight for last place, with Stevie Ocean, Nick Le Cornu and Alvin Aaron all predicted by Mr Benest to contest the wooden spoon.
But, are the experts – with their dependence on polls, form, and previous stats – really the best people to correctly predict the outcome?
Here at Bailiwick Express, in partnership with Durrell, we thought a much less scientific approach might be just as successful.
You’ve heard of Paul the Octopus, the animal oracle who correctly predicted results in the 2010 World Cup?
Could it be that within the enclosures at Jersey’s world-famous wildlife conservation park, there was another animal with similar powers of political divination?
Well, over the next three days you’ll be able to watch the Bailiwick Election Tortoise limbering up to predict the winner, with his tip for the top unveiled on Wednesday morning.
Intrigued? Here’s Part 1:
Election day is Wednesday – the polls are open from eight until eight – and the result could be known before 22:00 depending on the turnout. You can only vote for one candidate.
The eleven trying to convince you they’re worthy of your support are:
- Alvin Aaron
- Guy de Faye
- Mike Dun
- Sarah Ferguson
- Nick Le Cornu
- Christian May
- Sam Mezec
- Stevie Ocean
- Mary O’Keeffe-Burgher
- Hugh Raymond
- John Young
Whoever is elected will see out former Senator Cameron’s term of office which expires in spring 2018.
