The recount was carried out by more than a hundred volunteers at the Town Hall today at the request of the outgoing Senator who missed out on a seat by just 262 votes at last week’s election – after a day of counting, officials announced that the margin had actually increased to 271.
Last week, she finished the race in ninth place narrowly behind Treasury Minister Philip Ozouf with 9,800 votes compared to his 10,062 votes.
As the margin was less than 1% of the total votes she had the right to ask for the results to be double-checked.
Ferguson became a member of the States in 2002 and was elected Senator in 2008.
It is the first time there has been a recount for Senator and included all the votes cast for all the candidates and not just Senators Ferguson and Ozouf.
