Alex Gregory MBE’s advice is based on a wealth of knowledge gleaned from his varied and exciting career.

One of the world’s leading rowers, Alex’s career has taken him around the world into competitions ranging from the Olympics – where he took two gold medals – to World Championships – which saw him take five titles, no less.

But, for the MBE-holder, rowing has taken him far further than the sporting sphere. He’s also now an experienced polar explorer, having become a member of the World First Arctic Rowing Expedition, which saw him and an international crew of athletes make a gruelling journey across the Arctic Ocean.

Exploring some of the world’s coldest corners and most dangerous of seas following participation in some of the world’s toughest competitions has led the father-of-three through ups and downs – physical and mental.

But the rower has triumphed over all adversity, coming out smiling and ready to share his story and inspire others.

That’s exactly what he did at this year’s Channel Islands Sports Personality of the Year Awards, after which he shared with Express his top tips for the island’s young aspiring sports stars…
