The “pure strength and determination” of an underweight seal pup has allowed it to be returned to the wild after passing health checks conducted by a team of marine wildlife medics.

British Divers Marine Life Rescue were called to the north coast on Thursday after receiving reports of young grey pup there.

After clinical tests at New Era Veterinary Hospital, the team determined the seal was healthy enough for release.

In a post on social media, BDMLR said: “The weight is undeniably the wrong side of the scales but the positive health checks, pure strength and determination allowed this pup another chance.”

The rescue team marked the pup with an orange cross on its back for identification purposes should further monitoring become necessary.

Members of the public who spot the seal are urged to maintain a safe distance, keep dogs away, and contact the JSPCA on 724331.
