Where do you feel unsafe in Jersey?

The Force is now using StreetSafe, a tool launched in September 2021 by the Home Office and enabling people to anonymously flag public areas on a map where they feel unsafe because of poor street lighting, environmental issues or the behaviour of those around, including harassment or being followed.

It’s hoped that the tool will provide a helpful source of data on ‘problem zones’ for the police, assisting them with their efforts to tackle violence against women and girls locally and make streets safer for all.

“No one should fear walking the streets and with the data gathered from StreetSafe, we can focus our efforts on those hot spot areas,” explained Superintendent Alison Fossey.

“People can share their experiences of feeling unsafe in public places – regardless of whether a crime has taken place. We hope the data provided will improve our understanding of any of the concerns shared by our community.”

In the coming weeks, officers from the Community Policing Team will be engaging with businesses about displaying information and promoting the StreetSafe reporting tool.
