The Channel Islands Christmas Lottery is being drawn in Guernsey at 6 pm and the top prize is at least £1,150,000.

The Jersey distributor of tickets completely sold out last week, so the ones in shops are the only ones left. Organisers are optimistic of a sell-out across the water in Guernsey too – if that happens, the total prize could be around the £1.3 million mark.

Tickets have been selling like hot cakes – each one gives you two chances of winning a prize in the main draw. You can also win up to £5,000 with the scratch card. The second-draw prize is £50,000, the third-draw prize is £25,000 and there are 50 prizes of £500.

Lottery ticket sales throughout last year helped raise almost £700,000 for local charities.

The money helped fund a major refurbishment at Little Sisters of the Poor and meant St John Ambulance could buy a replacement support vehicle.

Other organisations to benefit included Jersey Cancer Trust, Jersey Hospice Care, Jersey Brain Tumour Charity and Brighter Futures.
