WHSmith at Jersey Airport is due to close next week, with the decision expected to impact a “number of staff” employed by the retail company.
The store is due to close on Monday 22 September as the result of “planned redevelopment” of the Airport terminal.
In a statement, Ports of Jersey said: “This decision also reflects valuable feedback from our customers, which we take very seriously.
“We recognise that this change affects a number of staff, employed by WHSmith, and we are committed to supporting them during this transition.”
Express asked how many people had been affected, but Ports said it was “not in a position to comment on how many people might be affected or on staffing decisions like redeployment or redundancies, which are being handled by WHSmith”.
It is the second closure to be confirmed by Ports this month – with 18 people made redundant last week as a result of the closure of the Executive Lounge, operated by Airline Services Channel Islands Limited.
Food, beverage, and duty-free outlets will remain open and Ports said it will ensure “key items” including newspapers and refreshments continue to be available for passengers.
“We look forward to introducing a refreshed retail concept as part of the future terminal offering,” the statement added.
