Annette Abolina (37) was caught stealing £90-worth of items from the United Colors of Benetton store where she was working on 28 November.

Legal adviser Susie Sharpe told the Magistrate’s Court: “CCTV captured her taking some items from the shop, placing them in her bag and then leaving the store with the items.”

Advocate Nicholas Miere, defending, said Abolina had no previous convictions and added: “She is extremely remorseful.

“She was an excellent worker, and this was firmly out of character. Her deep regret for her action was conveyed by her to her manager by text message.”

Relief Magistrate David Le Cornu said he was giving her credit for her previous good character in imposing a binding over order. He also ordered her to pay back the £90.

He said: “It is a shame that you have blotted your copybook in this way.”
