The 2025 World Bowls Indoor Championship concluded with England top with three medals.

Their one gold and two silver put them ahead of all the other teams in the competition.

Scotland came second with a gold and a bronze medal, with Australia third with one gold.

Because of the weight given to gold medals, Australia placed above Wales who went home with two prizes – a silver and a bronze.

Guernsey, Malaysia, New Zealand and South Africa each picked up one bronze medal.

Guernsey’s bronze was won by Alison and Ian Merrien in the Mixed Pairs competition.

They beat both Australia and New Zealand to reach the Quarter final where they faced their friend – locally based Scottish International Kim Watt, who was paired with an Israeli player.

The Guernsey pair took this game 2-0 to guarantee themselves a medal before entering the Semi Final against Lauren Gowen and Ross Owen from Wales.

The Merriens said “Gowen was on fire from the very first bowl”.

“This pressure was relentless, but it made for good viewing,” they added.

In the end, Guernsey lost 2-0 confirming their bronze medal.

“It’s been a good week of bowls but I was slightly disappointed to go out on a tiebreak after a good run in the singles,” acknowledged Ali.

“I’m extremely happy with a bronze in the mixed pairs, which is three medals out of three appearances together in this competition with Ian.”

Ian added that he was also proud of their “fantastic achievement” in the Mixed Pairs.

World Bowls thanked each of the competitors for their efforts during the tournament.

“Thanks again to all athletes and nations for the standard of play and sportsmanship shown across the week.”
