Nearly 700 athletes are expected to line up at the start line for Sunday’s Butterfield Half Marathon.

Entries officially close at 17:00 today – and the organisers had said they were nearing the 700 mark earlier this week.

The race starts at L’eree at 09:00 on Sunday morning.

Partially sighted and pushed wheelchair athletes will be starting at the back of the field, with assistance.

The entrants will be making their way along the west and north coasts of Guernsey, before approaching the finish line in town, on the Crown Pier.

The race is being held under UKA rules and the course will be marshalled for three hours and thirty minutes.

The course is over open roads so athletes are asked to keep to the left and to adhere to all instructions from the Police, Civil Protection, and marshals.

Any athlete wearing headphones will be disqualified and this year, the organisers have warned that anyone seen littering will also be at risk of disqualification.

This is after issues with littering on the course last year. To ensure that doesn’t happen this Sunday, athletes are asked to dispose of any waste in the bins provided at the water stations which are spread throughout the course distance.

The final opportunity for number collection for local participants is on Saturday morning between 10:00 and 12:00 at the Inner Street, Market Buildings.

Number collection is available on Sunday morning, up to 08:15 at the race start for overseas/visiting athletes only.

Race results will be published within 24 hours of the event ended, with the first male and female athletes across the line winning a trip to compete in the Bermuda Triangle Challenge courtesy of sponsor Butterfield.
