Guernsey scooped all five trophies in the fifth edition of the RED Fund Corcuera Cup last weekend, defeating Jersey rivals 47-17 overall.
32 players competed in 64 matches across four categories at Longcamps.
Guernsey secured the cup after just one day’s play.
Matt De La Mare, transitioning to the vets team, won all four of his matches, and with partner Lester Boscher managed to thwart an unbeaten run by Morgan Jubb and Ian Furness which they had held since they first started playing together in the 2023 edition of the event.
The Guernsey Men’s Vets team finished the weekend winning 10 points to 6.
In the Ladies’ Vets event, it was a clean sweep with the Guernsey side leading by 15-0 heading into the final match which saw the Jersey top pair taking on the Guernsey fourth pair.
Guernsey’s Rhiannon Hills and Michelle De Villiers never looked like buckling as they took the final match 7-6(5), 7-5.
In the Men’s Open event, Jersey’s top player Scott Clayton got delayed by weather pushing his matches towards the end of the day and allowing the Guernsey men’s team to race to a an early lead.
The Guernsey first pair of Olly Cull and 17 year old Liam De La Mare, who has just been called up to play for Team GB at the Junior World Championships, sealed four points. Guernsey’s Men won 10-6 overall.
The ladies’ luck continued in the Open. Jersey’s Clare Clark and Tash Forrest collected four points, but after them, there was little for Jersey to celebrate with the Guernsey team winning by 11 points to 5.
The MVPs were awarded to Jersey’s Tash Forrest who led their ladies team and won four points for the visitors, and Guernsey’s Cameron Gomes.
The 17 year old partnered with Nico Robinson in the Men’s Open team at Pair 3 and secured three points for the greens.
