Guernsey Mind has secured a guaranteed place in next year’s TCS London Marathon, with applications opening today for anyone who wants to run for the charity.

The successful candidate will be to raise a minimum of £2,000 to support the charity’s mental health initiatives locally.

Guernsey Mind in turn will provide the runner with a branded vest, publicity assistance, and fundraising support, said Chief Executive Jo Cottell.

“We encourage applications from both experienced and first-time marathon runners, and we will provide support to our selected runner.

“We’re excited to offer a local participant the chance to fly the Guernsey flag and represent Guernsey Mind at this prestigious international event.”

Luke Penney represented Guernsey Mind with its first allocated charity place during the 2026 London Marathon last month.

“The opportunity to run on behalf of Guernsey Mind has been a fantastic experience,” he said. “The support and well wishes I have received during my training and on the day have made the London Marathon one of the most enjoyable I have competed in.

“I would encourage anyone who wants to run on behalf of Guernsey Mind to put their name forward.”

Darren Broad, Jon Allaway and Kris Buddle also ran for Guernsey Mind after securing their own ballot places.

Together the four men raised thousands of pounds for the charity.

Applications for the opportunity to run London in 2027 must be submitted via the Guernsey Mind website by Monday 8 June 2026.

The successful participant will be announced two weeks later (22 June).

For those who feel a full marathon is a daunting prospect, the Guernsey Mind Investec 10K challenge returns this summer.

It’s a very popular event said Ms Cottel.

“If the marathon feels like a step too far, we’re also encouraging people to sign up for our Investec 10K challenge on Sunday 23 August.”
