Guernsey’s Harry Johnson has been selected to represent the ICC Europe Men’s Under-23 XI in a two-day match against the Marylebone Cricket Club.

Taking place at Wormsley Cricket Ground on 30 April and 1 May, Johnson is one of just 16 players chosen from European Associate Member nations for the fixture, which is part of the ICC Europe player development programme.

Richard Headington, the Chief Operating Officer of Guernsey Cricket, said Johnson’s selection is a significant achievement and reflects the dedication Johnson has shown to his cricket over a sustained period.

“Harry’s selection for the ICC Europe U23 XI is a tremendous achievement and reflects the dedication he has shown to his cricket over a sustained period.

“To be given the opportunity to compete against MCC at Wormsley, one of the most iconic venues in cricket, is something of real distinction. We are extremely proud to see a Guernsey player recognised at this level.”

Meanwhile the Senior Men’s National Team Head Coach, Jeremy Frith, noted that Johnson’s performances and professionalism earned him the chance to represent on a bigger stage.

Mr Frith said: “Harry has worked exceptionally hard to earn this opportunity. His performances, professionalism and appetite to improve have stood out.

“Exposure to this standard of cricket will provide invaluable experience and is another positive step in his development within the senior pathway.”

Johnson himself said: “It’s a real privilege to be included in the ICC Europe U23 squad. To play against MCC at Wormsley is a fantastic opportunity and one I’m very much looking forward to.

“I’m grateful to my coaches, teammates and Guernsey Cricket for their continued support, and I’m excited to represent both ICC Europe and Guernsey on this stage.”
