Some of the best young cricket players in the world will be taking the field in Guernsey, as a week of international cricket kicks off.
The island is hosting a round of qualifiers for the men’s Under-19 Cricket World Cup.
The matches – in the ICC’s Europe Division 2 – will see Guernsey, Sweden, the Isle of Man, Belgium, Switzerland, Italy, Germany and France Cricket compete for a place in the 2028 tournament.
The teams were treated to an evening at Government House on Thursday, hosted by the Lieutenant Governor, Lieutenant General Sir Richard Cripwell, ahead of the first matches on Friday.
Richard Headington, Chief Operating Officer at Guernsey Cricket, said: “It was great to see everyone in such great spirits and we’re wishing everyone the best of luck.”
He said the tournament would feature “some of Europe’s most promising young players to the island… and is a fantastic opportunity for them to make a name for themselves in a major ICC pathway event”.
