Guernsey retained the Muratti Vase on Jersey soil for the first time since 2014 with a hard-fought 2-1 victory at Springfield Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
Despite long spells of pressure from the hosts, the Sarnians proved clinical when it mattered.
Goals from Ross Allen and Matt Loaring punished a Jersey side left frustrated after missing a string of first-half chances, before Toby Ritzema pulled one back late on.
A packed Springfield crowd created a lively atmosphere throughout, with the travelling Guernsey support making plenty of noise from kick-off to full-time as they celebrated a second consecutive Muratti triumph.
However, the afternoon ended on a sour note after tensions spilled over following the final whistle. A pitch invasion from supporters quickly became heated, with a small number of fans involved in confrontations near the stands.
Missiles, including a large wheelie bin, were thrown towards the away supporters before several scuffles broke out between fans from both islands. Stewards and police moved quickly to contain the situation before it escalated further.
The incidents slightly overshadowed what had otherwise been another memorable chapter in one of the Channel Islands’ biggest sporting rivalries.
