Jersey maintained their cricketing dominance over Guernsey, beating the Sarnians by eight wickets in the weekend’s inter insular.
The big 50-over contest was full of exciting moments, star-making performances and healthy on-pitch rivalries, with Jersey putting together a commanding display to take the win.
“This is a really nice result for us, we wanted to go out there and make a statement, which I feel we achieved,” said Paul Hutchinson, Jersey’s Director of Cricket.
“We spoke about going in and playing hard, and our players really took Guernsey head on to get the win.”
Even though there were a plethora of stellar performances among the reds’ squad, one player took a step above the rest, as George Richardson stepped up when it mattered in a breakthrough performance, tallying an impressive five wickets on his way to man of the match honours.
“George was outstanding in the bowling, he’s really come on leaps and bounds, after spending a bit of time on the sidelines and struggling with injuries,” said Chuggy Perchard, Jersey’s captain.

“He’s worked so hard to get to where he is right now, working a lot on fitness and he’s an exceptional athlete, who really goes in fast.
“It’s great to see him become a really-thinking cricketer, and Jersey has been calling out for class acts in the fast bowling aspect of our game, so it’s brilliant that he’s stepped up.”
Despite the win, it wasn’t the most ideal start for Jersey, with the Reds fielding first after losing the toss.
However, those concerns of losing the toss were quickly wiped away, as the Caesareans didn’t hesitate one bit to demonstrate their ruthless intent.
It seemed that Guernsey just couldn’t gather any rhythm on the batting front, as no score topped 29 runs.
All of Guernsey’s side were bowled out in 43 overs, for a measly 150 runs, after an absolute masterclass in Jersey’s bowling attack.
It would have been easy for Jersey to turn a tad complacent entering their batting innings, due to the not so steep chase of 150 runs, but Perchard ensured intensity remained high, saying: “Before the lads went out, we had a chat and really wanted to take them on.

“The batting innings was absolutely ruthless, our batsmen were very aggressive and clinical, it was a superb performance.”
The reds’ Harrison Carlyon and Nick Greenwood opened the batting, starting strong as they put together a fair few runs.
They combined for 39 in just over four overs, before Greenwood suffered at the hands of Guernsey’s Adam Martel, bowing out through lbw with 20 runs.
